HIV Risk Reduction Counseling – Denver, CO

This two-day course is designed for those who employ behavior change strategies with clients to reduce HIV risk, on a one-on-one basis. This course offers a client-centered approach to behavior change counseling. It explores highly effective skills and covers research supported methods for assisting clients in the behavior change process. This course is geared towards anyone providing one-on-one interventions. This course is required of all counseling and testing staff at CDPHE contracted CTR/CTS sites.

Rapid Testing: How to Conduct and Integrate it with HIV Risk Reduction Counseling – Denver, CO

This two-day course is designed to help agencies implement the OraQuick Advance rapid HIV antibody test.  Participants will learn the protocols for conducting the test and will learn to assure test accuracy by conducting the test according to manufacturer's specifications and quality assurance guidelines.  Additionally, participants will review state reporting laws as well as state forms and laboratory forms associated with rapid testing.  Participants will also learn how to integrate the rapid test with their risk counseling, including how to: facilitate decision making in relation to testing, assist clients in deciding whether to test, support client readiness for testing, and give test results.  It examines the issues surrounding testing positive and increases participants' skills in eliciting their clients' concerns and to make practical referrals.

Prerequisite:  Completion of the “HIV Risk Reduction Counseling” course.
